In my art, I am trying to balance the vibrancy and inundation of modern life with the simplicity and design of another era. My paintings try to reinterpret the local landscape, and are equal parts a vintage tourist poster, a vibed out computer screen and a fashion palette. I am extremely attracted to color, but also simplifying the landscape and finding a simple graphic composition. Signage is also a focal point in many of my paintings for two reasons. One is that I frequently find juxtaposition, or an odd obviousness from where a sign is placed in the environment. And secondly, because sign colors are designed to catch your attention: tomatoes reds, deep turquoise greens, school bus oranges: I can’t resist how the colors of a bright sign, pop off a row of trees or a hot parking lot or beach.
